Kent de Condé was born in Montreal in 1905, and trained as a commercial artist and retoucher at Rapid Grip Ltd. during the 1920s. He later joined Bomac Engraving Company, where he worked with most of the artists who emerged on the Montreal art scene over the next five decades.
